So, you have just heard the most frightening words, “You have Cancer”.

As a team of Breast Cancer survivors, we understand the impact of these words. Whatever you feel right now, it is okay to feel the way you do. We are here to support you through this.

You are not alone!

We have put three booklets together to be your “best buddie”, to help you through your journey, to inform and educate you, your family, and your care givers. Offering you guidance and various kinds of support.
We want to help you cope by giving you information that makes the unexpected expected, so you know what is happening to you and where you can go for help in dealing with it.

Our top two pieces of advice are:

  • TAKE IT ONE STEP AT A TIME. This will help you to avoid feeling overwhelmed;
  • It is essential that you make time to nourish your own heart, mind and soul, as well as your body. Remember to do things for yourself; to find ways to fill your cup – whatever works for you.

Having cancer is a life-changing experience and emotional turmoil is a normal response to cancer diagnosis. You will very likely experience the Five Stages of Grief:

  • Denial

which helps us deal with overwhelming distress as we try to absorb and understand what is happening

  • Anger

which may be more socially acceptable than admitting we are scared

  • Bargaining

dealing with feelings of helplessness by appealing to something bigger than us that we believe may be able to influence the outcome

  • Depression

pulling inwards into sadness as we slowly settle into the reality of our situation

  • Acceptance

which is not about stopping feeling the pain of our situation, but rather when we stop resisting the reality and accept the truth.

We have made this journey before you. We will be there to support you as much as possible.

Please read the booklet relevant to your journey and reach out to any of our navigators for guidance.
