Hope in Action
Every October we wear pink for breast cancer awareness. This year, look a little closer, and see what your support makes possible.
Behind every number is a person, and a survivor Patient Navigator who helped them. This is the action behind the pink.
Over the past 12 months, the Breast Health Foundation has:
Join us as we create More Than Pink this October, through knowing it, wearing it and acting on it.
Know it
Understand your breast health, and help the people around you understand theirs.
Book an Awareness Talk
A breast cancer survivor comes to your workplace, school or community and covers:
- A personal breast cancer testimony
- How to do a breast self-examination
- The signs and symptoms, and what to do if you notice a change
- The myths and stigma around breast cancer, and an open Q&A

Wear it
Wear pink, gift it, or use it to start a conversation about breast health. Limited quantities, and every purchase supports our work.
Act on it
Take a step for your own health, give, or get your workplace involved.
Take a Breast Cancer Risk Assessment
One of the most practical steps you can take is to understand your own risk. Our free, confidential assessment takes about 10 minutes and gives you a personalised report, with a Navigator to turn to if your risk is elevated.

Questions, answered
What is Hope in Action?
Hope in Action is the Breast Health Foundation's October Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign. It is about looking beyond the pink to see what support can make possible: breast health education, Patient Navigation, survivor-led support and practical ways for people and organisations to take action. The campaign theme is More Than Pink. Wear It, Know It and Act On It are simple ways to take part.
What happens in a Breast Health Foundation awareness talk?
Our talks are presented by breast cancer survivors. Each one covers a personal testimony, how to do a breast self-examination, the signs and symptoms and what to do if you notice a change, the myths and stigma around breast cancer, and an open Q&A. Awareness talks now cover cervical health as well. Talks can be in person or online, for workplaces, schools and communities.
How can I book an Awareness Talk?
Book through our enquiry form and tell us your preferred date, location, audience and any specific topic you would like covered. Our Awareness Talks are funded by donations, and donations towards talks are encouraged. A Section 18A certificate is available for qualifying donations. For talks further afield, we may also ask for help with reasonable travel costs, agreed in advance.
How can my company partner with the Breast Health Foundation?
Through co-branded campaigns, staff wellness webinars, and CSI partnerships. We're BEE Level 1 accredited and all qualifying contributions are Section 18A tax-deductible, with impact reporting for your ESG and CSI needs. Start on the enquiry form and choose "partner with us".
Where can I get breast cancer awareness posters?
Our signs-and-symptoms poster set (a set of three) is in the shop, made for offices, clinics, canteens, classrooms and community spaces. Multilingual education materials are also available.
What is the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment?
The Breast Health Foundation's free, confidential Breast Cancer Risk Assessment takes about 10 minutes and helps you understand your personal risk and what you can do next. Your personalised report gives practical guidance, and if your risk is elevated, you can connect with a BHF Patient Navigator for support in finding the right care. Take the assessment.
What are the signs of breast cancer I should look for?
Know your normal and look for a new lump or thickening, a change in the size or shape of the breast, skin dimpling or puckering, nipple changes or discharge, and ongoing pain in one spot. If something is not normal for you, get it checked. Call our care line any time on 0860 283 343.
What has the Breast Health Foundation achieved in the last year?
In the last year, the Breast Health Foundation reached and educated 78,010 people, navigated 1,559 patients through clinics and referrals, and approximately 492 people diagnosed with breast cancer were supported through their journey.
Where does the money from the shop and donations go?
Donations support the Patient Navigation Programme. R50 can print 50 signs-and-symptoms bookmarks or provide a Breast Buddy side-effect booklet for a newly diagnosed patient. R500 can provide a Navigator with a month of data or fund a counselling session for a newly diagnosed woman. R5,000 can cover a month of a Patient Navigator's travel, and R10,000 can fund one Navigator's monthly stipend. Qualifying donations are Section 18A tax-deductible.
