In 2009 the Breast Health Foundation, launched a mobile breast cancer education unit in the district of Sebokeng. Staffed by two community educators, who are themselves breast cancer survivors, the unit travels throughout the region to help with the early detection of breast cancer.

Today, the Breast Health Foundation have 4 mobile education units, travelling through Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban.

AstraZeneca’s corporate social responsibility program Phakamisa has been instrumental in the development of our further mobile education units.

Over the past 5 years:

  • 686 000 people were educated face to face.
  • 6 800 Breast Health issues picked up through community education.
  • This has lead to an excess of 2 500 Breast Cancer diagnoses through our community education and navigation programs.
